Get Inside My Head

Friday, June 30, 2000

Dude, I just came across the world's truest and most kick-ass (excuse the Bill and Ted nature of this comment, but this is how I get when I gush) quote about Russell Crowe, found at the Ring Around the Crowe Mates site:

"Take one male, make him tall, heavy muscled, clear eyed, square chinned, give him a deep voice, a sexy accent, thick wavy hair and a soft thick beard. Put him in uniform, or armor, or a loin cloth. Give him attitude, intelligence, a touch of little boy, a hint of pain, and the leadership qualities of a lion. Hit all of it with the big MALE wand and stand back. Poof . . . Russell Crowe." -Nvjax

Hellz yeah.

About to go out to dinner with family friends tonight. (Hmm...I've noticed I tend to start all of my posts in this manner, i.e., with sentences of a similar structure. If I knew grammar, I'd describe it further, but I don't--see my post of 6/29.)

Just watched this video I borrowed from the library: the Star Trek 25th Anniversary Special. Yes, I have no life.

Dude, I am so obsessed. Continuing on my Russell Crowe craze, I am now on a desperate quest to obtain the latest CD, Gaslight, by Crowe's band 30 Odd Foot of Grunts. (Yes! The man sings, plays guitar, and writes songs...damn, is there no end to his talent? Hehe) Sadly, it appears that I can only order the CD from Australia, which is going to cost me one hefty sum for international shipping. Dammit.

Awoke from a refreshing nap a few minutes ago. Went to library earlier this afternoon--checked out some books on Latin and Russian, in an attempt to make myself into a polyglot, but was rather daunted by all this discussion of grammar. Interestingly enough, I was never really formally taught grammar until high school, and even then it was not really in-depth. So, unfortunately, to this day, I still can't tell the difference between a gerund and a participle (okay, okay, that was an exaggeration, but you get the drift). Perhaps I'll delve further into the state of public schools a bit later.

Caution: This posting NOT for the weak-hearted!!

My nose is like a mucous faucet. (Hey, you've been warned.) Goddammit...what I wouldn't give for the ability to breathe like normal people, without a constant post-nasal drip and what feels like a giant wad of spongy foam shoved up my nose. On average, I use a box of Kleenex a day, but it's slightly less noticeable because I cycle through the ten or so different tissue boxes we have at home, depending on where I am when Mt. Nasal Volcanus decides to blow. Thankfully, I just got a box of Puffs, which is about 10 billion times more soothing than the usual 79 cent boxes of generic, feels-like-rubbing-my-nose-on-gravel tissue we keep in stock. If I had a digital camera, I'd show you a picture of me in my miserable state right now, complete with red, swollen nose and a sea of used tissues surrounding me like some warped, twisted bed of clouds. (Sorry, that was a terrible analogy, I know.)

Russell Crowe pic of the day: (although technically I posted one past midnight last night, which would make this the second RC picture I've posted today. Oh well, you can't ever get enough of Russell Crowe.)

Just spent an evening singing Chinese karaoke with my parents--very entertaining. It rather amuses me that 80% of the Chinese songs I know are from the 1960's or earlier. Some might say I'm a freak; I say, that's what you get when your parents own a karaoke machine and 30+ laserdiscs, all of which contain only Chinese oldies. ;)

I love being able to randomly insert pictures into my blog. I think this is so cool. Just to emphasize my point, here is another picture:

And speaking of Russell Crowe...they don't make too many men like this anymore. What the world needs is more good old-fashioned masculinity--men who are equal parts strong, hot-tempered powerhouse and protective, chivalrous gentlemen. An article once described Russell Crowe as possessing both bruising aggression and sensitive intellect. Now is such a combination really too much to ask for? =)

Haha...random thing that happened yesterday that I forgot to mention: our downstairs toilet overflowed and flooded the entire bathroom. Fortunately (well, for me, anyway), I was asleep, so I saw neither the mess nor the purported hour-long clean-up effort. :-)

Just finished watching Snow Falling on Cedars and The Edge on video...they were okay. The little anachronisms in The Edge really cracked me up, though. For instance, in one scene, Anthony Hopkins' character is making a fish hook. The camera focuses in on a closeup of his hands unraveling a string from the hem of his sweater. Prior to this, he had no facial hair. In the next shot, the camera shows the completed fish hook and moves upward to Hopkins' face, and VOILA!! Insta-hair! He now has a full beard and moustache...amazing! Now this is what I pay $7.75 to see (well, technically less since it was a video).

Speaking of ticket prices at the movies, I despise Regal Cinemas. Ever since they took over and monopolized the theater business in Oregon, I've seen matinee prices rise from $3.25 a show to a now ridiculous $5.25. This is insane. I would boycott, except that I think seeing Russell Crowe in Roman armor is worth the extra $2. :-D

Again, terribly hot. If nothing else, this heat wave has definitely brought to my attention that I am NOT a tropical being. I fry easily, high temperatures deactivate me, and anything above 90 degrees causes me to immediately seek the nearest A/C unit. Plus, I look hideous in shorts. Therefore, my conclusion is that my future place of residence should be somewhere like Alaska, or Antarctica, or Siberia, where the only sunburn I'll ever get comes from the glare of the cold, heatless sun reflecting off the boundless plains of white, pristine snow. And where I can wear many clothes. Many, many clothes.

Ugh. It's one of those unbearable, hideously hot days today...I have neither the energy nor the motivation to do anything remotely productive. Not that this is particularly abnormal for me.

Maybe I'll head over the library later today and hide out there; I'm debating between that and just sleeping. So far, it looks like sleeping is the odds-on favorite. ;P What bothers me, though, is that it's almost too hot to sleep--when the mercury starts edging toward 100, normal physiological function sort of falls apart. If you move at all, the exertion causes you to wilt further; if you don't move, the heat tends to settle rather suffocatingly upon you. Just can't win. I suppose I shouldn't complain, since there are probably 10,000 places that reach temperatures much higher then here on a regular basis, but, hey, cut me some slack--I'm used to constant grey skies and a steady drizzle.

Grrrr...I am getting rather peeved at having to transfer my entire website. Damned AOL.

Anyway, I am trying to convince my parents to buy into the whole cable internet access concept, so I can be wired 24-7 at home, just like at school. Mwahahahaha....but don't tell them I said that. =) As far as they're concerned, it's for their own good so they won't have to tie up the phone line. And after this, I start negotiations for getting my car. ;)

Welcome to my new blog!

::ooh...aah::

Thanks to my foray into Limeworld.com, I have discovered this sure-to-be-addictive-but-who-the-hell-cares-since-I-already-spend-25-hours-a-day-online thing called blogger. Aiya. This could get ugly. :-)
